Department of Sociocultural and Justice Sciences Associate Professor Jesse Norris published an article in the Journal for Deradicalization, “Could the Futility of Terrorism Inspire Deradicalization? Narrative Strategies Arising from Case Studies of Far-Right Lone-Actor Terrorism.”

The article presents eight case studies of far-right lone-actor terrorists who released manifestos prior to their attacks, showing that they tend to have bizarre and highly unrealistic expectations for the real-world impacts of their attacks.

Based on the findings, the article develops several preliminary counter-narratives that could potentially be used to help deradicalize some extremists and prevent future attacks.
