State University of New York at Fredonia Programs

Veterans Scholarship Fund - The Fredonia Veterans Scholarship Fund will provide financial support to academically meritorious students receiving veterans-related entitlements. The Scholarship will celebrate excellence of our students and the freedoms secured through sacrifices and patriotism of our veterans. Applications are available on the website.

Robert E. Rie Scholarship - The Office of Student Affairs is pleased to announce the availability of the Robert E. Rie Scholarship for children of Vietnam Veterans attending State University of New York at Fredonia. With funds provided through the estate of Dr. Robert E. Rie, Professor in the Foreign Languages Department from 1963-1975, the University Scholarship Committee will be awarding several $500 scholarships to students enrolled full time. Recipients will be selected by the Committee following a thorough review of all submitted applications and an evaluation of your academic achievement as a student at Fredonia.

Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship - Public Law 111-32, the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship, amends the Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) to include the children of service members who die in the line of duty after September 10, 2001. The benefit is effective August 1, 2009; the same day the Post-9/11 GI Bill® takes effect. Eligible children attending school may receive up to their full tuition and fees for a public school or a statutory annual maximum amount for a public school, plus a monthly living stipend and book allowance under this program. Children of an active duty member of the Armed Forces who has died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, are eligible for this benefit. A child may be married or over 23 and still be eligible.

New York State Programs

New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) - The HESC Military Corner provides up-to-date information to those who serve or previously served in the military, have received a Federal Family Education Loan, or are interested in obtaining grants and scholarships for higher education for themselves or their family members.

NYS Veterans Tuition Award - Veterans Tuition Awards (VTA) are awards for full-time study and part-time study for eligible veterans matriculated at an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting institution or in an approved vocational training program in New York State.

NYS Regents Awards for Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans - Regents Awards for Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans were created to provide financial aid to students whose parent(s) served in the U.S. Armed Forces during specified times of national emergency.

Military Enhanced Recognition Incentive and Tribute (MERIT) Scholarship - Also known as Military Service Recognition Scholarship (MSRS), provides financial aid to children, spouses and financial dependents of members of the armed forces of the United States or state organized militia who, at any time on or after August 2, 1990, while New York Residents, died or is severely and permanently disabled while engaged in hostilities or training for hostilities.

Recruitment Incentive & Retention Program (RIRP) - The Recruitment Incentive and Retention Program (RIRP) is a New York State program designed to recruit and retain quality members for the State Military Forces (Army and Air National Guard, and Naval Militia). This competitive program will pay the cost of tuition up to a maximum of $4,350 per calendar year for eligible qualified applicants.

Veterans United Foundation Scholarship - Veterans United Foundation, formed and fully funded by Veterans United Home Loans and its employees, strives to enhance lives by recognizing the selfless contributions of service members and their families through support of such individuals in need. Despite the aid of benefits like the GI Bill®, the ever-increasing expense of a post-secondary degree is one of the greatest challenges facing so many of our nation’s finest, and in an effort to address this need, Veterans United Foundation has established the Veterans United Foundation Scholarship program. The program’s primary goal is to assist military service members and their families by awarding up to twenty $2,000 scholarships per semester to help pay for tuition and books.

To be considered, the scholarship applicant must fall into at least one of the following categories:
  • A current active-duty service member in the United States Military
  • Veteran of the United States Military
  • Spouse of a service member or veteran of the United States Military
  • Surviving spouse or child of a fallen service member of the US Military
  • Child of a service member or veteran of the US Military

VAMortgageCenter.com Scholarship Fund - This scholarship is for current and prospective ROTC program students, Active-duty military personnel with plans to attend college, honorably discharged veterans of the US military, and sons and daughters of veterans or active-duty military members.
