Masterworks Choir, chamber orchestra to present Fauré, Duruflé requiems
The Masterworks Choir, under the direction of School of Music Associate Professor Vernon Huff, will join forces with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra (WNYCO), a professional ensemble-in-residence at the university, in performances of the beloved Gabriel Fauré “Requiem” and Maurice Duruflé “Requiem” on Sunday, April 24, at 4 p.m., in King Concert Hall.
WNYCO, under the direction of Dr. Glen Cortese, will welcome vocal soloists, including special guest soprano Sarah Luebke, a member of the School of Music Voice faculty, as well as SUNY Fredonia alumni artists mezzo-soprano Grace Mingoea, tenor Tyler Huk and baritone Jason Rober.
Presentations of major oratorio works have been a treasured tradition at SUNY Fredonia for decades.
Tickets for the King Concert Hall performance are $20. Students of all ages are welcomed to attend free of charge. A new Fredonia Ticket Office policy includes a $2 charge for SUNY students if they wait to claim their ticket at the door. Students are encouraged to pick up a ticket in advance to save the $2 surcharge.
New to the Masterworks tradition is a first-ever performance in Erie, Pa., at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 134 W. 7th St., on Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. The concert, with WNYCO, will feature only the Fauré “Requiem,” but will also include favorite opera arias by W.A. Mozart presented by the solo quartet.
There is no ticket charge for the Erie event, but a $10 donation would be gratefully accepted by the hosting church.
