Sage Golisano, a Public Relations major at Fredonia, has received a Gilman scholarship to support a study abroad experience at the University of Ghana during the fall semester.

“My goal is to immerse myself into another culture to expand my global perspective,” said Ms. Golisano, a junior, who also has a minor in Multi-Ethnic Studies.

Golisano, from East Rochester, N.Y., was one of 800 undergraduates in the United States to be awarded 2019 Gilman Scholarships, which provide financial support to recipients of Pell grants to study in other countries. Golisano’s scholarship is valued at $2,000.

Gilman scholarships totaling more than $55,000 have been awarded to 18 Fredonia students since 2015.

Fredonia students interested in applying for the scholarship are encouraged to contact Erin Willis, assistant director of Study Abroad and Exchange Programs. Workshop sessions hosted by the Office of International Education will be held during the fall semester to familiarize students with the Gilman scholarship.

Applicants for spring and summer 2020 are encouraged to attend one of these workshops.
