The Department of Theatre and Dance will host a week-long residency, “Global Majority Men in Dance,” conducted by guest artists and Williams Visiting Professors Alfonso Cervera, an assistant professor of Dance at Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle, Wash., and Irvin Gonzalez, assistant professor of Dance at Florida State University, during the week of Feb. 21.

"We are excited to have Alfonso and Irvin come to not only work with our students but engage our community here on campus in conversations that are needed in higher education. We are lucky to have these two, high in demand, internationally known artists, be able to come into our spaces and share their knowledge and experiences,” said Assistant Professor of Dance Anthony Alterio.

“It's going to be a great week of dance, conversation and explosion of culture." - Assistant Professor Anthony Alterio

A highlight of the residency on Friday, Feb. 25, will be the presentation of a new work set on, or created by the guest artists specifically for Fredonia B.F.A. Dance students, followed by a community conversation around global majority and LGBTQIA+ artists in the field of dance and a question/answer session. The program, to be held in Rockefeller Arts Center Room 258 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., is free and all members of the campus community are invited.

The residency would not be possible without the support of the Department of Theatre and Dance as well as the Williams Visiting Professorship established through the Fredonia College Foundation, Mr. Alterio said. “It's going to be a great week of dance, conversation and explosion of culture."
