Barry Kilpatrick

Teaching Interests

Professor Kilpatrick has been a member of the faculty in the School of Music since 1979, teaching studio euphonium and trombone, Music Education courses in brass pedagogy and trombone, and music criticism. He is the School of Music’s Assistant Director for Admissions and head of the brass area. Former principal trombonist of the Erie Philharmonic, Erie Chamber Orchestra, and Western New York Chamber Orchestra, his recording "American Music for Euphonium" was praised in brass journals. Professor Kilpatrick has been a music critic for "American Record Guide" for 32 years, reviewing more than 2,200 recordings. Recipient of the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2010) and the Heart of Fredonia Award (2019), Professor Kilpatrick has devoted much time and attention in recent years to assisting international music students. Four trips to China and South Korea for seminars and recruitment have helped to increase their numbers.
