The English Department is a vibrant community of teachers and learners exploring the power of language and image in the 21st century.

Welcome to our Department!

The English Department at Fredonia values the importance of studying literature across cultures; fostering lifelong readers and writers; engaging multiple forms of textual literacy; and practicing the arts of creative and critical writing.

English and English Adolescence Education majors and English Adolescence Education B.A./M.A. students in the English Department at Fredonia actively participate in writing internships and community service learning projects; creative collaborations and field experiences with area schools; and public readings of literature to area children, seniors, and the broader community. And they read a whole lot of terrific literature!

The department produces top-notch graduates who get hired by regional and national organizations or go on to graduate programs all over the country. Recent graduates of the department are employed by law and business firms, journals and publishers, news and arts organizations, and schools.

"I am excited to be able to spend more of my academic experience at Fredonia. I have grown as a student and future teacher in the BA program, so I’m looking forward to pursuing both my BA and MA at Fredonia. This department is phenomenal. I will continue to learn from professors who have been with me throughout the program. They know us as students--our goals, learning styles, personalities, and that relationship will continue to develop. In this program, I’m working at being the best teacher I can be.”
