"...learning always occurs in a context of taking action, and they value engagement and experience as the most effective strategies for deep learning."
ā€” Richard DuFour, Educational Researcher

The practicum requirement is an integral aspect of the Environmental Sciences program as it provides our students with important practical experience they need outside of their classroom learning experiences. The practicum requirement can be fulfilled by completing an internship or research experience.

Our students have completed internships through, among others:Kevin Ludwig Greenhouse

Students may also fulfill their practicum requirement through a research experience. This may be satisfied by working with a Fredonia faculty member or through a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). Please visit the Department of Geology & Environmental Sciences Faculty Research Interests page for contact information for a potential faculty mentor. Note that faculty do not always have openings for research students.

Engagement

Whether through field-based classwork, service-learning activities, events occurring both on- and off-campus, community-based research, or internships, Environmental Sciences at Fredonia is all about engagement- engaging students in their studies, in their campus, and in their community.
