Teacher Education Club: Welcome to TEC

Welcome to TEC!

Mission Statement

Teacher Education Club (TEC) is a State University of New York at Fredonia group for students looking to expand their knowledge and appreciation of the field of Education.  This group is primarily student run and connects students to the community, College of Education, and surrounding school districts. TEC provides helpful information about trends in teaching, and vital pedagogical knowledge through guest speakers currently in the field.

Teacher Education Club helps students prepare for their professional year and future careers by offering workshops in resume and portfolio construction and insight in the craft of networking. The members are given numerous opportunities to reach out into the community and volunteer through tutoring and service learning projects. The bi-weekly meetings encourage networking and collaboration with other like-minded individuals—TEC offers a safe space for any student pursuing a career in Education.

Why TEC?

  • Learn to build a professional teaching portfolio and resume'

  • Participate in mock interviews & interview techniques

  • Participate in sponsored events on and off campus.

  • Interact with other teacher candidates as well as College of Education faculty

  • Earn certificates of participation and achievement for your teaching portfolio

  • Listen to speakers discuss: Graduate school, student teaching, teacher certification, the teaching interview, the first year of teaching, working effectively with parents, etc...

Major Accomplishments:

  • Here are some sponsored activities that TEC has taken part in throughout the years!

    • Children's Fest - TEC has put on Children’s Fest which is planned in conjunction with Rockin' in the Commons. We had a variety of crafts and activities for children of all ages in the Fredonia/Dunkirk area to interact with.

    • Buffalo Museum of Science Trip - We had a wonderful opportunity as a club to take a field trip to the Buffalo Museum of Science. This trip allowed our teacher candidates to better understand the science curriculum as well as provide ideas for hands-on materials to incorporate into those lessons.

    • School Supplies Drive - TEC collected a variety of school supplies to donate to schools in Belize City, Belize. This event was co-sponsored with Friends Across Borders.

    • Interviewing Tips & Resumes - Guest speaker, John Panebianco, came in and spoke with teacher candidates about interviewing tips and resume building. This event was in collaboration with the Career Development Office.

  • Here are some of our favorite meetings we've done!

    • Valentine's Day for Buffalo Children's Hospital: TEC created Valentine's Day cards and sent them to the children at the Buffalo's Children's Hospital.

    • Design Your Own Dream Classroom: Members had the chance to create vision boards that reflected what they wanted their dream classroom to look like!

    • Resources Workshop: The TEC E-Board presented resources for lessons and classroom activities. General body members had the chance to share their own as well!

  • We have had a variety of guest speakers at our meetings throughout this year as well. These are a few of the many who have recently joined our meetings:
    • Dr. Marshall, Mary Nemec (Graduate of SUNY Fredonia), Megan Lattanzio (Literacy Graduate Student), and Emily Ludden (Literacy Graduate Student) came in to give a presentation on Student Teaching.
