Dr. Bruce G. Klonsky, a devoted SUNY Fredonia educator and researcher in Psychology for over 40 years, died July 6, 2022 at a hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. As with most life challenges he faced, he made a valiant and sustained effort to overcome the sudden and unexpected illness that claimed his life. These winners were honored at our department's annual banquet on April 24th. In addition, 43 students were inducted as members to Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. Congratulations to all!
Looking for Summer Courses?
The Psychology Department will be offering many online classes this summer. Students can sign up for Foundations of Psychology (PSY 129), Positive Psychology (PSY328), Perception (PSY342), Cognitive Psychology (PSY 343), Cognitive Neuroscience (PSY 361), and/or Multicultural Counseling (PSY391). Interested in a Psychology Internship?
If you are interested in learning more about an internship in Psychology, please see our Internship webpage by clicking on the "Learning Outside of the Classroom" link in the left navigation pane or contact Dr. Lisa Denton. The webpage has more information on the types of internship placements, what prereqs you need, and how to apply. This is a great way to earn credits in Psychology while getting hands-on experience in the field. Deadline for applications is Friday, April 29, 2022.
Counseling Center providing free online counseling
The Counseling Center at Fredonia is providing free, confidential tele-mental health counseling through Zoom for all Fredonia students. You can access these services through your smart phone, tablet or computer. Check out the Learning Center for Online Tutoring!
For over 40 years, the Learning Center and Tutoring Services at Fredonia has been used by a large number of students. The Learning Center has a wide variety of student tutors, offering assistance in 18 disciplines including Psychology. The Psychology tutors can provide help for many courses in the department, especially Statistics (PSY 200) and Research Methods (PSY 315). For the Fall 2020 semester, Tutoring Services is online via Zoom. Zoom allows students to utilize one-on-one Breakout Rooms, ensuring that students will still have a confidential tutoring session! This program has been very successful, and students who utilize Tutoring Services consistently report feeling more confident and indicate that they have learned new strategies or skills and have a better understanding of course material after working with a tutor.
