Stephen E. Rees, Professor Emeritus
Stephen E. Rees is Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Theatre and Dance, and had been Technical Director since joining the faculty in 1982. He also formerly served as Resident Lighting Designer. He holds an M.F.A. in Technical Theatre Production earned at the University of Memphis. Prior to coming to Fredonia, he served in similar positions at the University of Georgia in Athens.
Mr. Rees's training includes emphasis in scenery construction, lighting design and technology, plastics and metal working, and materials selection and utilization. He has attained certification as a Certified Rigger - Theatre through the Entertainment Technicians Certification Program of the ESTA - The Entertainment Services and Technology Association.
Outside the department he serves as a theatre consultant to area schools and community theatres, and has served as consultant on the lighting and rigging systems for the Fredonia Opera House. He has also worked as Technical Director and/or Production Coordinator for East Coast regional opera companies including Summer Opera Theatre Co of Washington, D.C., OPERADelaware in Wilmington, DE, and Compania Lirica Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica. Upon his retirement in 2010, Mr. Rees was appointed Project Shepard for the upcoming addition to the Rockefeller Arts Center.
