Sam Kenney - Department Chair
Sam Kenney is Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, and an Associate Professor of Dance. She received her BFA from the Purchase College/SUNY Conservatory of Dance in 1998, and her MFA from Smith College in 2004. Before joining the Fredonia Faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2007, she taught at UMass/Amherst, Amherst College, Smith College, the Amherst Ballet Theatre Company, and the New England Dance Conservatory. She has also presented workshops at Rubicon Dance (Cardiff, UK), the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff Metropolitan University, and the Foundation for Liberal and Management Education in Pune, India, as well as numerous American College Dance Association Conferences.
Her choreographic credits include Rubicon Dance (Cardiff, UK), the InHale Performance Series (Philadelphia, PA), the Youth American Grand Prix Ballet Competition (NYC), Theatre Lantaren/Venster (Rotterdam, Holland), Irish Classical Theatre Company (Buffalo, NY), Buffalo Contemporary Dance, Zodiaque Dance Company, University Dancers of UMass/Amherst, the Five College Dance Department, Amherst Ballet Theatre Company, and the New Castle Regional Ballet, as well as her own company, Samantics Dance Ensemble, which was supported by the Northampton (MA) Arts Council. Three of her works have also been selected for performance in the Gala Concerts of various regional American College Dance Association Conferences : 90% Metaphor (Northeast, 2010), Embodying (Northeast, 2012), and Orion I (East-Central, 2016)
