Angelika Summerton received her MA in Dance Education from the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hannover, Germany in 1982, a BS in Legal Studies in 2011 and her MA in Public Administration from Hilbert College, Hamburg, NY in 2013.
Prior to her arrival to the U.S. in 1986, ‘Geli’ had been a member of the M.G.N. Dance Theatre Stuttgart for several years and had the opportunity to perform throughout Germany, Sweden and Hungary. While touring, she also taught for several years at the ‘Dance School Stuttgart’. Some of her students became principal dancers with the Stuttgart Ballet Company, the Munich Ballet Company, and the Nuremberg Ballet Company.
After coming to the U.S., she intensified her knowledge in the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet and completed the teacher's coach certification in this method. She also worked with the Delta Festival Ballet of New Orleans and the State Ballet of Alabama on their productions of the Nutcracker Ballet and has choreographed for musicals like Oklahoma, Bye, Bye Birdie, Anything Goes and Bells are Ringing.
Angelika has been on the State University of New York at Fredonia faculty since 1995 teaching ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance and has presented choreographies for the annual dance concerts of the Fredonia Dance Ensemble and for several Orchesis major dance concerts. Since the implementation of a BFA in Dance at State University of New York at Fredonia in 2007, she has successfully initiated and administered a minor in Dance Studio Administration and also has been teaching at numerous American College Dance Association Conferences.
