The Umbra Institute
The Umbra Institute is located in Perugia, often referred to as "the big university town in a small Italian city." Perugia perches on a beautiful hill in Umbria, the green heart of Italy. The Institute offersa number of distinctive and innovative academic programs. The General Studies Program is based on a traditional liberal arts curriculum and allows students to take a wide variety of courses taught in English (art history, history, business, psychology, political sciences, studio art, and more),along with a Italian language courses.
The Institute also has a Food Studies Program, a curricular concentration with three interdisciplinary food courses (Food History, The Business of Wine, and Sustainable Food) and the possibility of faculty-led internships in an Umbrian wine company. Finally, for students who are interested in a truly immersive study abroad experience, Umbra offers Direct Enrollment at the two local universities. Students who want to focus exclusively on Italian language and culture (from absolute beginner to advanced levels) can direct enroll in the prestigious Università per Stranieri (University for Foreigners).
