Eligibility for STEP

Student Eligibility Criteria:

STEP is funded through the New York State Education Department (NYSED). A student is eligible if he or she is a member of an underrepresented group and meets the GPA/School requirements or meets the NYS Opportunity Program criteria for economic disadvantage and the GPA/School requirements. Member of an Underrepresented Group
A student is a member of a group that has been “historically underrepresented” in the scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematical fields. NYSED has defined those groups as African American/Black, Hispanic / Latino, Native American/ Alaskan Native.

Economic Disadvantage
A student's household income cannot exceed the New York State Opportunity Programs Income Eligibility Criteria.

GPA/School Requirements

  • Student has an 80 % GPA

  • Student has an interest in pursuing a career in the science, technology, engineering or math(STEM) fields.

  • Student is in good standing with his/her school.
