A definition of a resource is "That to which one resorts or on which one depends for supply or support; means of overcoming a difficulty; resort; expedient" or "Pecuniary means; funds; money, or any property that can be converted into supplies; available means or capabilities of any kind."
It can mean, for a college campus, the difference between state-of-the-art equipment and or up-to-date materials for students and faculty. Important to the functioning of our campus are the additional resources that external funding affords us. In years past, this has included all kinds of equipment needed for teaching and research, as well as computer licenses, special programs, and materials. In an era of "short" budgets, these grant awards have significant value to the campus.
