Pops series opens season with renowned Canadian Brass
Canadian Brass has earned the distinction of “the world’s most famous brass group.” With a uniquely engaging stage presence and a warm rapport with audiences, each Canadian Brass concert runs the full range from trademark Baroque and Dixieland tunes to new compositions and arrangements created especially for the ensemble.
The world-renowned ensemble will open the 2018-19 DFT Communications Pops Series on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Fredonia School of Music faculty member JiHyun Woo joins as a guest for several selections featuring the Schlicker pipe organ.
Audience members can expect an evening of spontaneity, virtuosity and fun. The Fredonia program will include music from composers ranging from Bach to Leonard Bernstein to The Beatles.
With a discography of over 130 albums and an extensive worldwide touring schedule, Canadian Brass is an important pioneer in bringing brass music to mass audiences everywhere.
They have sold well over 2 million albums worldwide. They continue to score Billboard chart positions — like with their rousing recording of patriotic songs and marches, “Stars & Stripes: Canadian Brass Salute America,” which spent eight weeks in the Top 25 on the Billboard Classical Chart.
Touring legends with an enthusiastic fan base, Canadian Brass play to packed houses everywhere throughout the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe.
The group has also toured Australia, the Middle East, the Soviet Union and South America and were the first brass group to take the main stage at the venerable Carnegie Hall.
In addition to the concert, Canadian Brass will hold a master class on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. in King Concert Hall. The class is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and are available through the Fredonia Ticket Office.
During the hour-long master class, Canadian Brass members will coach two student brass quintets from the Fredonia School of Music on performance techniques and interpretation.
Funding is provided by the Williams Visiting Professorship Endowment of the Fredonia College Foundation. The event is sponsored by DFT Communications and radio stations WDOE and 96 KIX Country as part of the Lake Shore Savings Season.
