Courses redesigned to meet SUNY’s new Diversity framework
SUNY Fredonia has designated its first Diversity: Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice courses – ENGL 274: Social Justice and the Written Word and ENGL 296: American Identities – that have been recast to conform to the new SUNY General Education Framework.
Record number of Fredonia graduates accepted into medical schools
An all-time high 16 alumni of SUNY Fredonia – half of them members of the Class of 2023 – will matriculate to medical, dental, optometry and veterinary schools and physician assistant programs this fall.
Study abroad course immerses students in Italian Renaissance art
Fifteen students spent two weeks in Florence, studying Renaissance painting, sculpture and architecture. Brief side trips to the cities of Fiesole, Siena and Arezzo plus hiking and relaxing along the Mediterranean coast at Cinque Terre, a string of centuries-old seaside villages were also on the itinerary.
Students awarded $36,000 to fund summer research at SUNY Fredonia
Eight undergraduate and graduate students majoring in biological sciences have each been awarded $4,500 stipends to support individual research experiences this summer. Endowments established in the Fredonia College Foundation are providing $36,000 to support the research activities.
Vanwesenbeeck gives talk at Orient-Institut workshop in Istanbul
Department of English Associate Professor Ici Vanwesenbeeck was invited to speak at the workshop “Imperial Lives Turned National: Biographical Reflections on the Post-Ottoman Transformation a Century Ago,” at the Orient-Institut, in Istanbul, on May 22 and 23.
Lee awarded Fulbright; will advance water research in Honduras
It should come as no surprise for SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Ted Lee to use his Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award during the Spring 2024 semester to continue his research into water quality issues in Honduras.
The Leader receives top NYPA awards
The Leader, the student newspaper at the SUNY Fredonia, won a pair of first place awards, along with a second-place award and honorable mention designation, in the New York Press Association’s 2022 Better College Newspaper Contest.
Ryan Nowak named April ‘Student Of The Month’
Ryan Nowak, who recently received concurrent undergraduate degrees in Computer Information Systems and Music, was named Student of the Month for April by the Office of Residence Life.

English Associate Professor Ici Vanwesenbeeck's article, “Early Libretto Writing Tradition in the Ottoman Empire (1839–1861): The Handwritten Copy of Pacini’s Saffo,” has been accepted for publication in The Opera Journal's Autumn/Winter 2023 issue.
