The friends and colleagues of Department of Communication Associate Professor Mike Igoe know he’s passionate about colon cancer awareness. But what may not be as widely known is that 2023 marks his 20th anniversary of surviving the disease.

So, to reach others who could also be helped with timely testing, Mr. Igoe, along with former SUNY Fredonia videographer Jim Gibbons, produced a public service announcement.

For that effort, the New York State Broadcasters Association recently gave it an Excellence in Broadcasting Award at a ceremony held in Buffalo.

The 30-second spot first aired on the Fredonia student TV station WNYF, and eventually it was also carried on WUTV as well as WBBZ TV in Western New York.
