Dubbed the “Slush Rush” because of the likelihood of snow, the race is held in remembrance of Xylia Peterson, ’85, an international student at Fredonia who went on to become an important, contributing member of the community before she died tragically in an automobile accident at the age of 45. The Xylia Peterson ’85 Memorial Fund was established in her memory to provide international education scholarships to full-time juniors and seniors at Fredonia.
Peterson was from Sri Lanka and worked as a secretary at Fredonia for the Vice President of Administration. Her family remembers her as, “a dedicated and hard worker. She was kind of heart, had a positive attitude, and lived life to its fullest. She loved her family and was an avid quilter and gardener.
2017 Race Details
This year's race will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 9:00 AM and will take place entirely on Fredonia's scenic campus. Students, faculty, staff, and community runners are welcome to attend. Door prizes, long sleeve shirts, and a post-race party is included in the registration fee. Awards and prizes to overall male/female runners plus medals to the top 3 in five year age groups.
Course: Slush Rush takes place entirely on Fredonia's scenic campus and is certified (map below). The course flat, quiet, and run almost entirely on Fredonia's (very wide) sidewalks. There is a water table at the halfway point.
Registration, packet pick-up, and the post-race party will take place in the Williams Center on the day of the race. Signs will direct participants and volunteers to parking and registration. Those unfamiliar with Fredonia's campus should use a campus map.
