The History Club has a threefold purpose:
- to share cultural history of Fredonia and Dunkirk
- to draw together students who love history
- and to educate the campus community about historical events that influence society
The group holds monthly discussions about current and historical events, visits and tours historical sites, attends guest lectures, and sponsors visiting speakers.
Past excursions and events have included a trip along the Buffalo River to visit the collection of grain elevators and learn about its illustrious past and hopes for the future; a trip to Fort Niagara; participation in community events like Fall Sweep; watching a period film and having faculty members speak on the topic; and a field trip to Gettysburg.
This year, 2016-2017, we have a lot planned! We are already planning a trip to the Genesee County Museum on September 24th. We are in the process of planning a trip to Washington DC for Fall Break as well as a trip to Forest View Cemetery in Buffalo sometime in late October. We will be hosting a WWII veterans panel in early November. We also hope to invite professors to present their research, or whatever they are working on, to the club.
Membership is open to all Fredonia students, faculty, and staff. For further information, contact either the current President or Vice-President.
