Brad Costa

Brad Costa majored in History/Social Studies Adolescence Education.  Originally, he started his career path at Fredonia as a Political Science Major. After the first year of college, and a few conversations with an influential teacher from high school, Costa decided that he wanted to teach. He knew that Fredonia’s program would best prepare him for the education field.

Fredonia gave me all of the tools I needed to be successful in life after college.

Currently, Brad Costa is teaching Social Studies in North Carolina at Eastern Alamance High School. He is able to teach World History, American History, and Civics and Economics. He is also the assistant basketball coach. He said that Fredonia allowed him to think outside the box, be creative, and find who he truly was. Furthermore, as a result of multiple placements, thanks to the Education Department, he felt more confident and prepared for his own classroom. As far as the History Department is concerned, he said that it, “taught me to think critically, be open to new ideas, and to generate my own opinions and feelings after conducting research and background on topics.” The History Department has a variety of opportunities for students to experience as well as courses that truly do prepare students for the real world.

Since Costa is a successful teacher already, we asked him, “What is your advice for newcomers to the History/SSED programs at Fredonia?” He stressed the importance of working hard. A History/SSED Program here at Fredonia is hard work but completely worth it in the end. Through the History Department, one will find professors who become mentors and courses which are relevant to what someone will be doing in their career. Students become critical thinkers, more determined, and hardworking individuals when attending Fredonia. Lastly, Costa mentioned that over the course of four years, there will be new challenges to face, but make sure to face them head on. However, always enjoy the time that you have here because Fredonia is where a person will find a career path; find friends who become family; and find who you truly are.
