Sustainability For Community Members

Working with community members to promote environmental awareness and responsibility and to foster ethical stewardship of our local ecosystems is central to the missions of FACE and Fredonia's Sustainability Committee. As a Great Lakes region and home to the largest number of farms in New York State, Chautauqua County has amazing fresh water resources, a rich agricultural heritage, abundant and diverse wildlife, and many other important natural and community resources. FACE seeks to unite community interests, expertise and needs with campus resources to protect these significant natural assets and to build stronger, more sustainable communities. We need and welcome community involvement to help us generate innovative environmental solutions both locally and globally.

Getting Involved on Campus

To address a wide range of sustainability issues, the campus has created 15 subcommittees, including recycling, food, energy, transportation, green landscaping, technology, and green building. While many of these subcommittees focus primarily on integrating sustainable practices into aspects of campus life, some of the subcommittees such as Earth Week work on campus and community events planning. To join a subcommittee or to find out about subcommittee meeting times, please visit the Go Green website.

Working with Campus Sustainability Leaders

Do you have questions about implementing a recycling program or other sustainability projects in your organization? Would you like to consult with faculty and staff members about sustainability topics? In keeping with their commitment to strengthening environmental awareness and responsibility on and off campus, sustainability subcommittee chairs are willing and eager to consult with community members and local groups on relevant environmental topics. To contact a subcommittee chair, please visit the Sustainability Subcommittee page. To find particular faculty members with an environmental focus, please consult the Go Green Academics page.

Building Service-Learning Connections
