In Fall 2014, Rachel Beneway worked as an intern for The Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County's nonprofit bookstore, 21 East. Her favorite moments at the bookstore included interaction with the community members, exploring the wide variety of books available, and holding events such as Pizza & Poetry. The event offered students discount books, as well as the opportunity to present their own creative works. The event she hosted with Writer's Ring and English Works brought in many new customers, as well as showcased the talents of many writers.

In Fall 2012, Amandria Guadalupe gained valuable skills from this internship.
"The Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County Bookstore is the primary site for the Literacy Volunteers tutors, helping adult students improve their lives all throughout the county. The bookstore sells gently used, donated books and uses the profits to benefit the program. Some of the books donated are older and more valuable than the rest, and can be sold online to book collectors or those interested in older books. An intern is needed to navigate the internet to search for and decide
the prices of the books, and then post them online for all to see! The intern will also help out at the bookstore, assisting customers, organizing shelves, and learning the importance of the workings of a non-profit organization. The intern must know how to navigate the internet and be able to work independently! An appreciation and respect for all types of books is also a must!"
