Read on to learn more about advising in the English Department!
English degree students are assigned an advisor upon entering the program. To look up advisors and office locations, consult the list outside the English Department office door, Fenton 277.

Once you have declared a major, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR APPROPRIATE LISTSERV for important information about registration, deadlines, important department events, internship opportunities, and so on.
Consult your major's checklist to help know where you should stand in meeting your program requirements.
As you consider potential courses to take in advance of meeting with your advisor during the course advising and selection period each semester, please browse our current course booklet and consult the current list of course offerings.
Always keep the following graduation requirements in mind as you meet with your advisor.
1. All students must have earned 120 credit hours to receive a Bachelor's degree in New York.
2. All students must have earned a minimum of 66 credit hours OUTSIDE their coursework that counts toward their first major. The 66 credit hours can be earned in a second major, in a minor program, in general education course work, and so on.
3. All students must have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours in the major and 45 total credit hours in upper-level coursework (300-level or above, unless otherwise specified).
4. Graduate students must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours for the M.A. English degree or M.A. English 7-12 degree with a grade of B or above in each course.
