Criminal Justice Scholarships

The Criminal Justice Program currently offers two scholarships to its students:

Steven C. Croglio Scholarship

An annual scholarship given to a Senior Criminal Justice major exhibiting academic excellence and commitment to a career in law enforcement. This honor carries a financial award to be applied toward senior year tuition.

This award is open to any Criminal Justice major who meets the following criteria:

1.  will be a senior during the following academic year

2.  has a current GPA of at least 3.0

3. is a full-time student

4.  has made plans to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer

5.  is of good character 

Eligible candidates must submit an essay indicating their depth of commitment to the profession of law enforcement, their specific reasons for pursuing a career in law enforcement, their resolve to make a meaningful contribution to the profession, and a brief summary of their record of service to others. 

Call-outs for the essay competition are usually sent in the middle of spring semester. Please do not send unsolicited essays to the program director.

 

University Police Scholarship

The endowment for this scholarship began at the behest of members of our University Police force, to recognize students in the Criminal Justice major. The financial award is given to an exceptional junior student, for assistance in his or her senior year.

This award is open to any Criminal Justice major who meets the following criteria:

1. will be a senior during the following academic year

2. has a current GPA of at least 3.0

3. is a full-time student

4. is of good character

Eligible candidates must submit an essay using the following as criteria:

“Professionalism and ethics are important in any field.  They are especially important in the criminal justice field, where the use of discretion is a key component of job duties.  Based on the field you hope to pursue; whether in policing, courts, corrections, probation/parole, caseworker, etc., explain why professionalism and ethics will be crucial to performing your job tasks well.”
