Speech Language Evaluation and Swallowing Evaluations
A speech language evaluation for an adult is tailored to the nature of the complaint and associated diagnosis. For example, if the complaint is stuttering or voice, the evaluation will be very different than for individuals who has suffered a stroke or traumatic brain injury. The main components of an evaluation can include:
- articulation
- language comprehension
- verbal expression
- voice
- fluency of speech
- oral-peripheral examination of the speech structures
- hearing screening
A swallowing evaluation is very specific to the swallowing process and to the function of the oral peripheral mechanism.
Therapy is provided at the Youngerman Center for a wide variety of disorders in the adult. Once the evaluation is completed, a consultation and written report will detail the results of the evaluation. If therapy is recommended, the report will include recommended goals to remediate the disorder.

The Youngerman Center provides services to children and adults who are experiencing a communication or swallowing problem such as:
- delay in speech language development
